Being from the same region of the contents of the book, and having read books of other authors who have attempted to capture not just the geography but the mindset, I opened the first page with my usual jaded guarded sense of caution. After just ten pages, I knew this author was familiar with everything and everybody, their true interaction/dynamics, and everything for which the reader might "beg" for the perfect book. My prediction is that Mr. Gandy will be at the top of the NY Times bestseller list if he's not already. This book is not only loaded with realisms, truisms and mannerisms of crime and dysfunction in south central Ms, it also ventures into the very minds of the persons as to what might be motivating their behaviors. Truly a gem. Will be buying others for sure. I give it an A++++++++++ and that's being a bit conservative.Product details

Having lived on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, and being familiar with Jackson, MS, Two Work Power Politics Mysteries caught my eye. This is one of the few books set in the deep South that I've read, which doesn't rely on `southerisms' and cliches to develop the characters or carry the story. The two mysteries include a well developed cast of characters (I grew quite fond of Harry) and provide a multi-layered plot that kept me reading way past my bedtime. On the downside, I didn't find the title relevant, interesting or eye catching, and there were some formatting errors, though not enough to be distracting. I enjoyed the book so much I've purchased several of Mr. Gandy's other books which, in my opinion, are underpriced at .99.
